This combined tour will allow you to visit the Doge's Palace and the St. Mark's Basilica, two undisputed symbols of Venice.
The visit will start at the Doge's Palace, the former seat of power of the Republic of Venice, and thanks to an expert guide you will learn about the history and anecdotes related to this Palace and the Doges. You will see the rooms where the Doges and the Council of Ten made decisions concerning the city, enriched with magnificent masterpieces by important Renaissance artists, including the famous Venetian painter Tintoretto. Crossing the Bridge of Sighs you will reach the "new prisons": the Piombi. The Bridge owes its name to the English poet Lord Byron and probably refers to the prisoners' sigh as they passed over it to reach their place of imprisonment.
The visit will continue inside St. Mark's Basilica, a majestic example of Byzantine art and considered one of the most beautiful cathedrals in the world. It was once the private chapel of the Doge of Venice and your guide will tell you everything you need to know about its history and the uniqueness of this ancient basilica.
