For centuries, the Doge's Palace was the heart of political life in Venice, then also called Serenissima, residence of the Doge and seat of the Council of Ten. Your guide will tell you the history of this very important building, rich in works of art by famous Venetian artists, including Tintoretto, and show you the magnificent Staircase of the Giants, which welcomes visitors to the palace courtyard. You will cross the Bridge of Sighs, so called because of the sighs of the convicts who passed over it on their way to the prisons.
After visiting the Doge's Palace, your guide will take you to the Basilica of San Marco, one of the undisputed symbols of Venice, where you can admire the splendid golden mosaics, typical of the Byzantine period, and go up to the terraces from where you can enjoy a beautiful view over the lagoon and the city. Accessing the terrace of the Basilica will undoubtedly elevate the already marvelous experience of beholding the majestic and opulent cathedral. The panoramic vista of Piazza San Marco, the island of San Giorgio, the Campanile, and the Clock Tower promises to be a breathtaking sight to behold.
