The museum is located inside a convent built by the Jesuit congregation in the 15th century. These religious, who owe their name to the frequent invocations of the name of Jesus, were dedicated to the care of the sick and the production of perfumes and liqueurs.
Today, the Archaeological Museum exhibits a collection of materials dating mainly from the Roman period found in and around Verona.
It also contains objects from 18th century collections, such as that of the famous numismatist Jacopo Muselli.
The ancient Roman theatre is one of the best preserved in northern Italy and was built at the end of the 1st century BC. Of the original stage building, only the original tufa supporting walls remain, while the grandstands were relocated or rebuilt at the beginning of the last century.
