Built in the mid 1600s, the Colonna Gallery was commissioned by Cardinal Girolamo I Colonna and his nephew Lorenzo Onofrio Colonna. It was conceived as a huge state room to celebrate the victory of the Christian fleet over the Turks during the Battle of Lepanto in 1571. The Gallery hosts an art collection initiated in the Seventeenth century and increased later with sculptures from the Roman age and several paintings ranging from the Fifteenth to the Nineteenth century.
