With this guided tour you will discover some of the oldest and most fascinating churches in the Western world. You will visit the magnificent Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore, which still preserves its primitive early Christian structure, and the even older Basilica of San Giovanni in Laterano, the most important of the Roman Basilicas and of the entire West. You will then go on to discover the Holy Staircase, which according to Catholic tradition is the same staircase climbed by Jesus and is said to have been transferred to the city of Rome by Empress Helena, mother of Constantine I. The Holy Staircase is a sacred place and will be visited from the outside.
Finally you will enter the Catacombs of San Callisto, located outside the city walls, where the tombs of more than 50 martyrs and early popes are located.

Should the Catacombs of San Callisto be closed for religious reasons, the visit will be replaced with the Catacombs of Santa Domitilla.
The Sacred Staircase is a sacred place, it will be visited from the outside.
